significant animals in my recent life
The other day I met a 9-week-old German Shepherd named Smoky. I don’t know if you’ve ever met a 9-week-old German Shepherd, but they’re made up of everything that is adorable in the world and have bits of leaves and twigs stuck to their adorable fuzzy fur when they run up to say hi to you. It’s a surprising thing when your previously absent maternal instincts emerge out of nowhere, and suddenly all you want to do is raise a baby German Shepherd and guide it through its angsty teenage years before sending it off to fulfill its life work as a police K-9 dog. Basically, what I’m trying to say is that if you ever have a chance to meet a 9-week-old German Shepherd, you should definitely take it. Also, I’ve always appreciated the clever use of homophone with “K-9.”
The other animal that I’ve been dedicating thought to is Chick-fil-A’s chicken sandwiches—the one that comes in a foil baggie and doesn’t contain any vegetables. When Chick-fil-A emerged recently, I had a feeling I had eaten their chicken sandwiches before. A Google search revealed that there had, in fact, been a Chick-fil-A in my local mall circa 1990. This is a notable discovery as I’m someone who probably couldn’t remember what I ate last week, let alone fast food I had when I was five.
I’m not really sure where I’m trying to go with all of this, other than to illustrate that animals are important to humans and moments like meeting a puppy or eating a delicious poultry sandwich will stay with me for a long time.
